Can a political committee use firstgiving to raise funds?

We have formed a committee named "Citizens to Elect Susan Geerling."  Can we use your site to raise funds?  We are looking for a grassroots way to solicit donations so there are "no strings attached" like there are with big donations or funraising events.

Thanks!

Maria

Hi Maria,

FirstGiving can be used to raise money for any US-registered 501(c)3 nonprofit - from what I understand, political organizations have a different tax designation, but if your organization is a 501(c)3, then you can raise money on our site.

If your tax designation is something else, you can still raise money online using a "personal-use" fundraising widget such as that provided by a website like ChipIn.

Have a great day!
