Hi Maria,

FirstGiving is a website for raising money for nonprofits - the funds you would raise on this site would be sent directly to the nonprofit you selected when setting up your page.  We don't send funds to private individuals.  However, you may be interested in checking out a site called ChipIn - www.chipin.com - which does personal-use fundraising.

If you are working with a particular nonprofit to get medical care for your son, you can always use FirstGiving to raise money for that nonprofit - but remember that the funds will be sent to them, and they will then disburse them as they see fit or according to some arrangement you have made with them separately.

Best of luck!

Hi Maria,

If you're having a tough time finding autism organizations in your area, or national organizations that operate nearby, you may be able to find something useful on FirstGiving.  If you go to www.firstgiving.com, you'll see a search box up in the top right of the page.  To narrow down your search to nonprofits (rather than individuals or events), click that box that says "All" and choose "Nonprofits."  Then, type "autism" or whatever you're interested in into the box there and hit enter.  You'll get a bunch of results, but on the left, you'll see the option to choose your state from a list.  That will narrow down your results to only those organizations in your state.  When you click the various search results, they may have contact information listed, or they'll have a website link where you can find more info.

Hope that helps a bit.
